Dryden Man And Another Fined For Harassing A Moose

Two men have been fined $2,500 for harassing a cow moose on Eagle Lake.
The Ministry of Natural Resources was notified in July about a boat that was circling a moose, preventing it from getting to shore.
Video footage of the incident was also provided.
Andrew Weiers of Dryden and Matthew Weiers from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta were in the boat and later went to get three more passengers.
After repeatedly circling the moose, Matthew jumped on the back of it.
The boat, owned by Andrew, has been seized and will be returned once the fines are paid.

The MNR would like to remind folks that moose are biologically programmed to fear, and will attempt to escape from predators, including humans. If they aren’t able to escape, it can cause them phsyical exhaustion, stress and even death.

To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667), or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
