Dryden Mayor Looking At Options Following Greyhound Announcement

The Mayor of Dryden says there’s a lot of people in northwestern Ontario who depend on Greyhound to get from point A to point B.

The company will halt all bus service from Sudbury to British Columbia effective October 31st.

Greg Wilson says he understands the reasoning behind the decision but still calls it disappointing.

Wilson stresses regional leaders now need to work with both levels of government to ensure public transportation is available for local residents.

As for what’s next, Wilson believes subsidized service isn’t the answer.

He says Greyhound couldn’t compete as effectively because of the emergence of subsidized travel providers.

Wilson says if we just allowed the market system to do its thing, we would find that certain players would come to the table and provide whatever service they can.
