The Mayor of Dryden is calling the recent Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference very productive.
Craig Nuttall says they requested four meetings and they received four meetings.
He says they talked about repairing Duke Street, support for Ministry of Natural Resources expansion at the Dryden Airport, as well as policing costs.
Nuttall says he told the Parliamentary Assistant for the Ministry of Transportation that you could “ride your bike on Duke Street, fall into a pot hole and never get out.”
Nuttall notes they also had a 3-hour meeting with the Ministry of Finance and other high ranking officials regarding Municipal Property Assessment Corporation assessments.
Nuttall says the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association needs to be more involved in lobby efforts in the on-going battle with MPAC.
He says NOMA hasn’t been at the working table and hasn’t done enough to help fight recent assessments across the north.
Nuttall says he asked NOMA President Dave Canfield to attend a key second meeting on the issue but Canfield failed to attend.
He notes Mayors from other communities including Fort Frances and Thunder Bay were at the table.
Nuttall believes the Northern Mayors Coalition is making steady progress on the issue.
