The Dryden OPP says there was a slight uptick in the number of assault complaints and thefts in the first quarter of this year.
Staff Sergeant Mitch Davis says in terms of assaults, most fell into one category.
“The only increase that we had was assault-related,” Davis told the Dryden OPP Detachment Board at its quarterly meeting.
“So, we dove into those a little bit. The majority of them were Intimate Partner Violence, as well as assaults at hotels within the town for the first quarter.”
There were 38 assault complaints in the first three months of 2026, compared to 34 in 2025.
In terms of thefts under $5,000, Davis says there was a 35 percent increase reported.
“Property crime…we have snuck back up to 23, so we’ll be implementing our same theft reduction strategy as last summer. So, we should see a decrease in property crimes.”
While both assaults and thefts inched up from the same period last year, they were actually down a little bit from the first three months of 2024.
