Dryden Physician Concerned About Proposed Tax Changes

A Dryden physician is speaking out against proposed Federal tax changes.

Dr. Adam Moir says the government is looking at taxing money earned by so-called “Corporations” by as much as 54%, essentially handcuffing doctors and small business owners from saving money for pensions and retirements.

Moir notes the tax changes may discourage physicians from taking on work or picking up overtime hours.

Moir is also upset about the curtailment of “income sprinkling”, a method by which business owners shift a portion of income to family members, either through salary or dividends.

He is encouraging local residents to discuss the tax changes with Kenora MP Bob Nault and send letters to Finance Minister Bill Morneau.

Dr. Moir has launched a social media campaign to raise awareness and speak out against the changes.

One of the features is a video with his 4-year-old daughter.

The video has already generated significant attention, so Moir has decided to donate $1,000 to the Second Chance Pet Network and $2,000 for the CT Scan Renewal Fund.

He says if 10,000 people watch it, he will donate $5,000 to a charity of choice to be decided on Facebook.

Right now the Dryden Recreation Extension and Modification Committee is the popular option.
