Education will be a key component of a Dryden Police strategy to deal with new rules surrounding recreational marijuana.
Chief Doug Palson says a lot of work has gone into preparing officers for today’s legalization and says they are as ready as they will ever be for it.
He also says there will be some growing pains that police across the country will have to adapt to, especially when it comes to determining if a driver is impaired.
Palson says most of the force will be trained on field sobriety testing by the end of the week and the ministry has provided information for front-line officers as well.
He also notes Dryden Police won’t be using a roadside machine that tests your saliva for marijuana.
Palson adds that as they move forward in the next little while, they will be informing the public on some of the rules of possessing and consuming cannabis.
