The Dryden Police Service is hoping to once again bring back its seasonal Bike Patrol program.
Applications are still being accepted for two Summer Student positions but its future is unclear given coronavirus restrictions.
Chief Doug Palson stresses it would be a shame if they had to cancel the initiative.
“Great success over the last several years with our summer students. They contributed a lot. They are very valuable for patrolling the City and the parks on bike patrol and assisting in community events. Interacting with the public, especially the youth. Patrolling the downtown.”
Palson adds “We use them to monitor problem areas such as certain intersections. It would be a shame if we weren’t able to bring them on this year but like a lot of things, a lot of different things are being affected obviously by COVID-19.”
Palson says he is monitoring the situation and any decision will be based on whether or not restrictions are lifted or loosened.
The deadline to apply is 4:00pm on Friday, May 8th.
The positions are funded by a provincial government grant.
