So far 75,000 people have been evacuated.
Shaun Capovilla lives in downtown Calgary and was told to leave this morning.
He says the power went out around 5:00 am.
Capovilla says there’s absolute panic in the City and he describes the scene as a disaster zone.
He notes there’s water up to the rooftops and several key buildings have been flooded out.
Capovilla says boats are going down what used to be City streets.
He says the flooding came so fast that no one knew what to do.
Capovilla is one of several people from Dryden who now call Calgary home.
Canadian Armed Forces troops and helicopters are covering all areas of southern Alberta and the Canadian Red Cross is already starting relief efforts.
The city’s mayor has described the Bow River as looking “like an ocean.” and Prime Minister Harper is expected on scene this afternoon.
