Dryden Rotary Honours Young Public Speakers

The Dryden Rotary Club honoured area students for their writing and public speaking skills Wednesday.

Three awards were handed out at the Performing Arts Luncheon at the Best Western.

Barrett Edenbrun is a Grade 8 student at St. Joseph’s School and he received the Ian Nixon Memorial Trophy for the top speaker.

Edenbrun credits Rotary for hosting the event, stressing it gets students thinking and allowing them to express their feelings and talking about their thoughts on world events.

He made a presentation on the benefits of learning a second language.

Edenbrun says a lot of people criticize public speaking, but he feels it’s important to everyday life.

He also offered advise to other young students, stressing stay committed to your work and try your best, because it will pay off in the end.

The Rotary Club also recognized Grade 8 Open Roads students Ethan Cook and Raili Makela in the Public Speaking contest.
