The Dryden Rotary Club has honoured a group of individuals for their work in the community.
Willene Moffat and Jim Shearer received “Paul Harris Fellowship” awards Wednesday night at a special ceremony at the Centre.
Shearer is the Director of the Mission in Dryden and was recognized for his commitment to assisting the homeless and the less fortunate.
He says a lot of hard work has gone into the success of his program since its inception in 2011.
Shearer notes the entire community has rallied behind his cause and he’s received plenty of assistance from High School students.
Moffat has been a leader of Dryden through the Arts Council as well as a long-standing member of the Dryden Artists Association.
She says she’s amazed and thankful that people have recognized the work she has done as a visual artist.
Moffat says she volunteers because she loves it, stressing she’s passionate about art, all of the art work in the community and all of the artists she works with at the Gallery.
A special Honorary award was given to the Denzler Family in the name of Walter Denzler who passed away this past January.
Junior, intermediate and senior students also received Rotary Music awards at the ceremony at the Centre.
Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary and the Fellowship award was founded to recognize and show appreciation for the activity of individuals in the community that exemplifies the Rotary motto “Serve Above Self”.
