Dryden Taking Next Steps In Closure Of Barclay Landfill

The Barclay Landfill site officially closes for good Saturday.

That leaves Dryden residents with a couple of options including use of the Highway 502 Landfill site as well as regular curbside pickup.

Manager of Public Works and Engineering Blake Poole says they must now meet strict provincial standards when closing the Barclay dump.

Poole says they will undertake a three year closure plan.

He notes the first step is installing a few feet of clay cover over the site as well as get some vegetated growth on top.

He adds security of the site will be upgraded by additional fencing and they will also install additional monitoring wells.

Poole says measures are in place to protect the quality of the environment and prevent contamination of air, water and soil.
