The big moment for Dryden’s Andie Wood is here.
Wood will compete in the 3,000 metre Steeplechase at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg Tuesday night.
She was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show today and she says the biggest challenge leading up to the event is dealing with the extreme heat and humidity.
Wood says you can’t go too hard in training and become dehydrated and tax your body.
She notes the key is finding a balance between getting the right drills in and making sure you rest your body for the race.
Wood adds it has been a difficult adjustment for everyone, with a high demand for early practice times and the constant struggle to stay cool.
For the event, Wood says she sits in the middle of the pack but stresses in Steeplechase, anything can happen.
She wants to stick with the pack early and ensure she runs a clean race.
The University of Victoria athlete will be in competition at 6:50 at the University of Manitoba Stadium.
