DWAIN WARREN SHANKORIK
On December 31, 2008 Dwain Shankorik passed away at the age of 58 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Dwain is survived by his daughter Suzie (Kopansky) & husband Cam of Athabasca, AB; son Steven of Canmore, AB; his parents Nick & Gwen of Gimli, MB; sister Cindy & Joe (Claessens) & family, Andrew, Riley & Mark of Cambridge, ON; and Jayne Shankorik of Dryden. Also surviving are numerous cousins, and aunts who reside primarily in the Gimli area, where he has spent a majority of his time in recent years. Dwain was born on Dec. 23, 1950 in Winnipeg, and lived in Kenora. After graduating high school in 1969, he moved to Vancouver and then to Whitehorse, Yukon, where he owned a bread business. In 1981 he moved his family to Dryden, ON to work for Dryden Police Service. Dwain retired in 2004 after 23 years of service. A service honouring Dwain’s life will take place on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1:00 in the Recreation Centre in Gimli, MB. RSVP to shankorik@hotmail.com is appreciated but not required.
