“Our Pickleball family has grown substantially since its inception at the Eagle River Rec Hall in November 2023. Recreation Facilitator, Carman Brignall, provided the facility availability and equipment as part of her initiative for socialization, camaraderie, friendship and positive mental health. It has become a ‘social circle’ in Eagle River. We meet for two hours, three times a week and get a great workout!
We have a dedicated core group of players and welcome any newcomers willing to give it a try. Yes, some of us are competitive but ultimately against ourselves and our end goal is to enjoy the game and each other’s company.
Pickleball was introduced in 1965 as a backyard children’s game in Bainbridge Island, Washington, US but we were unaware of its existence until 2023. Many were apprehensive about playing as it was deemed ‘dangerous’ and an ‘old people’s sport’. It turned out to be the complete opposite. It requires speedy stop and start movements, quick reflexes, excellent eye/hand coordination , strength and resilience.
It really is a fun sport and we keep
it at that level.
There is ALWAYS something to do in a small town!”
