The Dryden Eagles got an early look at what could be considered one of the front runners at the OFSAA Boys Hockey tournament in Fort Frances.
The Eagles played well but couldn’t slow down the third ranked St. Mary’s Crusaders 6-1 Tuesday in Emo.
The Hamilton based team outshot Dryden 31-17.
The Crusaders have only lost twice this year.
Jacob Lugli scored the Eagles lone goal.
Dryden will face 0-1 Campbellford tonight at the Duke in Couchiching First Nation.
The fifth ranked Flames lost 7-6 to Widdifield in a chippy opener in Emo.
The other NorWOSSA teams had success in their first games.
The defending champion Muskies thrilled a sellout home crowd with a 6-1 win over Timmins.
The St. Thomas Aquinas Saints upset sixth seeded St. Anne’s 3-2.
