It was a testy affair friday night at the dryden memorial arena as the dryden eagles hosted the red lake rams. Both benches agreed on the officiating being difficult, as players and fans alike, get used to the new hockey rules.
The red lake rams were first on the board with a late 1st period marker by Peter Martone, assisted by brendan hourie and eric sanna. Early in the 2nd the rams were up by 2 when Peter Martone potted his second goal, this time assisted by Devon O’Donnel. The Eagles finally entered the game, scoring 5 minutes into the 2nd with Brendan Church assisted by Tyler Sampson and Miles Pitchenese. 6 minutes later Brendan Church tied the game scoring his second goal assisted once again by Miles Pitchenese. 25 seconds later The Eagles were game leaders with the go ahead goal coming from Blare Feller with help from John Engstrom. Heading into the third period the Eagles had a 2 man advantage and they took FULL advantage of it scoring twice in under a minute. 25 seconds into the period Kevin Trott scored, assisted by Brendan Church and Jason Runge. 21 seconds later it was Brendan Church once again netting his 3rd goal and 4rth point of the game assisted by Tyler Sampson. A strong defence and special teams were the deciding factors in the game which ended with a final score of 5-3 for the Eagles.
Next action for the Eagles comes next friday, Nov 24rth against Kenora, followed by a Saturday match up against the muskies.
The Red Lake Rams will also enjoy a week off, with their next game slated for next weekend against fort frances.
