Eagles Offense Solid In Opening Season Win

As longtime offensive line coach Rob Rodgers put it, “some wins are pretty and some not so much…but we’ll take ’em either way.”

That summed up a big opening season win for the Dryden Eagles as they walked away with a 48-27 win on the road against the St. John’s Tigers in Winnipeg High School Football Friday afternoon.

It was the Jarett Hicks show early as he recorded touchdown runs of 48-yards and 2-yards.

The quarterback then hit Jacob Bilous for a 75-yard catch and run for a major.

The Tigers would quickly close the gap with two majors of their own.

Dryden would respond as Liam Wrolstad carried the ball for a 15-yard touchdown run.

That was followed up by a 85-yard kickoff return for a score courtesy of Bilous.

The pesky Tigers wouldn’t go away as they continued to chip away at the Eagles lead.

However, the door was slammed shut with two key interceptions by Thomas Moline and Randy Russell.

The pass rush of Kadin Taylor also resulted in a pair of knocked down passes at the offensive line.

Dryden would ice the game with the third touchdown run of the day by Jarett Hicks.

He finished the contest with a second pass for a major, this time to Gunnar Anderson.

The coaching staff says they are pleased with the effort, but not a lot of work remains.

The Eagles received some great support from their offensive line, which boasts three returning players.

Next up for Dryden is Portage on the road next Friday.

The Trojans dismantled Tec Voc 47-9 on Week #1.

In other action, the Beaver Brae Broncos dropped their opener, 44-20 to Neelin.
