There is concern in Ear Falls that the new 12-megawatt Hydro Electric
Power Plant will be put on the shelf.
In late February construction crews moved-in to begin work however for
the past 2-weeks all activity has ceased.
Mayor Jim Desmarais says the Town has been left in the dark and they are looking for answers from Ontario Power Generation.
Desmarais notes the rumor mill is working overtime with concerns ranging from bald eagle nesting sites to heavy snowfall.
Lac Seul has also voiced its opposition to the project due to an
outstanding grievance over the flooding of reserve lands when the Ear Falls
Dam was built in the 20’s.
