Good news for the town of Ear Falls.
EACOM Timber has re-opened the community’s sawmill after it’s been closed for more than 4 and a half years.
Unifor National Representative Stephen Boon says the mill currently employs over 50 unionized employees and over 20 per cent of the new Unifor memebers are from area First Nations.
Boon says he see’s the number of employees reaching 100 after a second shift is added.
He says the big focus right now is recruiting a full contingent of licensed trades.
To get this accomplished, EACOM has implemented a new $4.25 recruitment and retention premium that now boosts current certified trades pay to $34 an hour.
