Ontario’s Education Minister is once again stressing his government will do everything in its power to keep kids in class until June.
The pledge comes despite uncertainties in contracts, labour disputes and COVID rates.
Stephen Lecce says students deserve a normal year.
Lecce says kids need a sense of hope as they suffered the most throughout the pandemic.
At the same time Lecce is talking tough as contract talks with the teachers unions continue.
He states the government is sticking up for parents.
“Teachers unions and education unions have striked and withdrawn services throughout those 30 years. That is the truth and the constant in the life of a child in this province and parents are sick of this experience. Tired of this experience every three years.”
Lecce adds at least one union is not bargaining in good faith because they already called for a strike vote.
“When an education union in the Province of Ontario decides to hold a strike vote before the government even had the benefit of tabling our first ask, I would submit that is disrespectful to the people of this province, who demand stability for children.”
