Education wins

Here are today’s Local Good News highlights!!

A Massive Win for Local Education (Dryden, Red Lake, & Kenora)

Confederation College just confirmed a $1 million provincial investment to bring specialized industrial millwright and welding training directly to our backyard.

Instead of traveling to Thunder Bay or Southern Ontario, 60 students in the Dryden, Red Lake, and Kenora areas will get hands-on training locally.

This program is specifically designed to get more women and Indigenous students into high-paying roles in our booming mining and construction sectors.

Historic Funding for Indigenous Institutes (Sioux Lookout & Treaty #3)

The provincial government announced a record $57 million investment in Indigenous Institutes.

Local Impact: Seven Generations Education Institute (SGEI), which serves many  communities, has welcomed the funding. This will allow them to expand seats in high-demand fields like healthcare, STEM, and Indigenous languages, ensuring students can stay in their home communities while building their careers.
