Learning about the history of Treaty rights from both a Canadian and Anishinaabe perspective.
That was the experience for students at Open Roads School in Dryden Wednesday following a presentation from Elder Don Jones for Treaties Recognition Week.
Jones says it’s important for young people to know what treaties are all about as well as the rights of Indigenous people.
Jones says he hopes he opened some eyes on some of the history the students may not have seen before.
He notes Treaty knowledge and learning should be in the school curriculum all year, but says Treaties Recognition Week is a good start.
