The Elementary Teacher’s Federation of Ontario plans to bring attention to
the on-going elementary occasional teacher negotiations, through radio ads.
ETFO President Emily Noble says local boards need to improve working
conditions for occasional teachers, and can do so with reasonable daily
assignments, access to permanent jobs, and improved daily wages.
Noble adds the public should look at all of the valuable work substitute
teachers provide.
Elementary occasional teachers in 13 boards have been without a contract
since August 31st, 2004, and have been attempting to negotiate since last
spring.
Substitute elementary teachers with the Keewating Patricia board are one
of the 13 without a contract.
