After finishing school she worked at the “log cabin” for the local paper mill manager. The building is now the Riverview Lodge. She could distinctly remember the huge amount of ironing she did as the family had four daughters. She then moved on to work in the finishing room at the Dryden Paper Company for a few years. Mom married James Tuckey on November 30th, 1937 at her parent’s house in Dryden on Riverview Drive where she was born. The house still stands today. Mom worked at the Oxdrift Co-op for 35 years and was also postmistress when the post office moved into the Co-op store. She retired at 67 and enjoyed many years on the farm. Mom played the organ for the Oxdrift United Church on Sundays, joined the Oxdrift Women’s Institute in 1950 and was a Life time Member was very active in this organization, taking many positions and travelling to conferences. She took on many tasks for other organizations as well. Mom’s hobbies were gardening, her flowers, knitting reading, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, sewing and all types of crafts, skiing in winter. She attended all the short courses and Leadership courses put on by the Department of Agriculture. She was a 4-H Leader and enjoyed this thoroughly. Her family, students, and others enjoyed receiving the gifts of her labor. Moms family was very important to her, always interested in their education, being in close contact with them all and having everyone come to the farm. She never missed sending a birthday card, or any special occasion and was so loved by us all. We will miss you mom, grandma, great-grandmom. Rest in peace. Love your family.
