A reminder of road safety rules concerning emergency vehicles.
With more drivers on the road for the holiday season, CKDR News has received complaints of drivers not moving over for emergency vehicles.
One concern is with volunteer fire fighters, who have their flashing lights on to respond to a fire.
A reminder if you are on a two-lane road, to signal and move to the right and pull over as close as possible to the edge.
If you are on a one-way street, signal and pull to the right or left side, clear of any intersection and stop.
At an intersection, traffic in all directions must yield to emergency vehicles and you should not block the intersection.
If an emergency vehicle is approaching from behind you, don’t make a left turn, proceed straight through the intersection, then pull to the right and stop.
Fines for a first offence range from $400 to $2,000, a loss of three demerit points and possible suspension of your driver’s licence for up to two years.
