Federal funding to support the Hammond Reef Gold Mine project.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has allocated a total of $18,000 to help two groups participate in the environmental assessment.
The Atikokan Sportsmen’s Conservation Club and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters as well as the Ontario Coalition of Aboriginal People are the recipients.
Osisko Hammond Reef is proposing to develop an open-pit gold mine about 23-kilometres northeast of Atikokan.
The mine would have a life-span of roughly 14-years with a production rate of some 50,000 tons per day.
