Kenora Catholic students including St. John in Red Lake are struggling to keep up in math – a trend that is apparently being felt Province wide.
The EQAO results have been released and show while young students are doing well in reading and writing, they fell well below the provincial average in math.
Director
of Education for the Kenora Catholic District School Board, Phyllis Eikre, tells us they’ll have a better idea of what needs to change after they break down the results. “What we need to do is look child by child and you can look question by question through the EQAO test. We’ll be able to see the types of things that are trending with kids like where are they having their problems, what areas of math they’re having their problems in,” she says.
A bright spot for mathematics were the grade nine academic scores, where they scored above the provincial average at 90 per cent.
