The Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre invites the community to the opening of its 2026 summer exhibit, Handcrafted: The Keepers of Cultural Heritage, on Saturday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m.
This year’s exhibit celebrates the rich tradition of women’s handcrafting in Red Lake, recognizing the skill, creativity, and dedication that have been passed from generation to generation. Handcrafted explores the important role these crafts have played in preserving cultural heritage while creating opportunities for women to gather, socialize, and share their knowledge.
Visitors will discover a wide variety of traditional handcrafts, including quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, macramé, beading, and scrapbooking. The exhibit also examines the history of local crafting clubs, the ways handcrafted skills were taught in earlier generations, and the cultural significance these traditions continue to hold today.
Come explore these time-honoured traditions, learn about the people who have kept them alive, and hear the stories of those who continue to pass these skills on to future generations.
