DESCRIPTION:On April 22\, 2026 the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada will host an Open House information session on the NWMO Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project. \nA community open house will take place on Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dyment Recreation Hall\, offering residents a chance to learn more about the federal impact assessment process for the proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project. \nThe Open House will feature presentations by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC)\, followed by a relaxed open-house period where attendees can explore information\, ask questions\, and speak directly with staff. The goal is to create a comfortable and informative environment for community members of all backgrounds. \nThis session comes at an important time\, as the assessment process has entered a new phase following the recent decision to proceed with a review panel. Community input will be sought on how the assessment should be carried out and how people can participate effectively. \nThe upcoming draft Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and the draft Public Participation Plan will be central to the discussion. These documents outline what will be studied and how the public can stay engaged throughout the life of the project. \nPrinted materials will be available at the event and will remain accessible locally after the session\, helping ensure that everyone has the opportunity to review and reflect on the information. \nWhether you have been following the project closely or are just starting to learn about it\, this open house is a great opportunity to get informed and be part of the conversation. \nAll are interested community members from Dryden\, Ignace\, Sioux Lookout and the area are welcome and invited to attend. \nThis open house is organized in partnership with the Local Services Board of Melgund\, Art Borups Corners and is made possible with funding from the IAAC Participant Funding program. DESCRIPTION:Water Wise is a program developed in Dryden dedicated to showing young kids – aged 9 to 14 – who have minimal swimming skills – safety skills and safety knowledge for water based emergencies with first aid skills to help if needed. \nThe Water Wise safety program in Dryden is accepting up to 30 kids who have minimal swimming skills. \nThe sessions will be held on May 3rd\, 10th\, 24th and 31st at the Dryden Rec Complex. \nThe Water Wise safety sessions are FREE!! \nTo sign-up and get more information contact Derek at 807-220-4559 or email: waterwisedryden@hotmail.com \nProgram instructors include Derek Ouellette and Matt Taylor.

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to Get to Know International Collaboration and Projects Around the World featuring the United Kingdom (UK) Geological Disposal Facility (GDF). \nThis special presentation\, hosted by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization and the Local Services Board of Melgund\, will take place at the Dyment Recreation Hall on Wednesday\, May 6\, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. \nWhat it’s all about\nOther countries around the world are working in partnership with communities to find a suitable site for the long-term disposal of used nuclear fuel. Join us to hear about one of the United Kingdom’s largest environmental protection programmes\, a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF)\, including experience with transportation of used nuclear fuel\, engagement practices and lessons learned. \nAnnabelle Hall-Tomkin is a subject matter expert on the United Kingdom’s Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) programme and an experienced practitioner in nuclear related public and community engagement. She has spent the past nine years contributing to the UK’s Geological Disposal Facility programme for the safe and secure disposal of radioactive waste\, serving as Principal Community Engagement Advisor with Nuclear Waste Services (NWS). She has been central to shaping how communities participate in one of the country’s most significant long term environmental programmes working with Community Partnerships and developing guidance for communities in the siting process.
