Against daunting odds\, they achieved what other Allied forces had been unable to do—capturing the heavily fortified ridge in northern France. The victory came at a tremendous cost\, with more than 10\,000 Canadian casualties\, including over 3\,500 lives lost. Yet Vimy Ridge is remembered not only as a military success\, but as a moment when Canada emerged on the world stage as a confident\, capable nation.\nToday\, the Canadian National Vimy Memorial stands in France as a lasting tribute to those who served and sacrificed.
