The bear hunting season is underway across Northwestern Ontario.
Outfitters stress the hunt is critical to control bear numbers and to
help the Northern economy.
Igance-area Camp Owner Clifford Long urges members of the public to use
extra caution when out in the bush.
Long says he’s already seen a high number of bears near the traps which
keeps the animals away from area neighbourhoods.
He says there would be less stress on controlling the bear population
if the province would re-instate the spring bear hunt, even on a trial
basis.
