The Far North Electoral Boundaries Commission has been given a very tight time line to carry out its mandate.
Those who attended a public consultation in Dryden last night learned the five member panel is expected to deliver a draft report for the Attorney General in early July.
Chair Joyce Pelletier says right now they have four possible re-distribution maps for ridings in northern Ontario, but all that can change since they are bound by the Representation Act and there will be many more steps before any decisions are made.
The redistribution maps show both Dryden and Kenora at the very northern edge of a re-drawn Kenora-Rainy River Riding, leaving Sioux Lookout and Lac Seul as well as Red lake and Ear Falls as part of a new riding which includes a number of fly-in communities in the far north.
Concerns so far include expenses and the logistics campaigning and running an election in the Far North.
Consultations will continue throughout the weeks with stops in Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and various First Nations.
The deadline for the final proposal is a fast approaching August 1st.
There will either be one or two new ridings in northern Ontario when all is said and done.
