Federal Election Round Up

The Kenora riding is red once again.
Liberal incumbent Roger Valley held off an early charge from
Conservative Bill Brown and New Democrat Susan Barclay to earn a seat in
Ottawa.
Valley credits the win to his work in the far north.
He says it will be a challenge with the Conservatives holding a
Minority Government but he’s ready for it.
Valley improved on his 2004 numbers with just 9,465 votes.
Conservative Bill Brown improved on his 2004 numbers, with 8,429 and a second place showing.
Brown says he made a great run but couldn’t get the votes in specific parts of the riding.
Support for Susan Barclay dropped with 8,109 votes, while Green
Candidate Dave Vasey picked up 682 votes.
The candidates have not indicated if they will make another run at
the MP position.
The rest of Northwestern Ontario is painted red.
Joe Commuzzi edged his competition in the Thunder Bay-Superior North
riding while Ken Boshcoff was re-elected in the Thunder Bay-Rainy River
riding.
Boshcoff credits his win to his support outside the Lakehead.
Boshcoff admits it will be different sitting on the opposition side of
the Government but notes he’s up for the challenge.
John Rafferty of the NDP finished a close second.
