Federal Government Urged To Scrap PCR Tests

The Canada/US border is open again for motorists wanting to head south.

But not everyone is happy with the requirement that you have to have a PCR test before going back into Canada.

A molecular COVID-19 test, such as a PCR test, can cost anywhere from $150 to $300.

Susie Grynol is President and CEO of the Hotel Association of Canada and says it’s an unnecessary expense.

She says, “Fully vaccinated Canadians re-entering Canada must undergo the PCR test. So today we’re asking if the science is the science, then why do we have two sets of rules on either side of the border.”

A similar test is not needed for anyone entering the land border in the United States but “fully vaccinated Americans coming to Canada must undergo an additional expensive PCR test,” states Grynol.

Grynol adds that the need for a PCR test is hurting tourism.

“The process is complicated and expensive. It is urgent that the Canadian government complete its examination of this policy. Every day that this inconsistent policy stands, our industry falls further behind.”
