Federal Minister Addressing Labour Shortage

Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says her government is working on a strategy to solve what is becoming a severe shortage of workers in our area and across the country.

The Thunder Bay-Superior North MP says “they have to make sure that if businesses are going to remain competitive and have opportunities to grow and innovate, that they have a trained workforce and that we’ve truly
dug to the deepest wells of our talent pool as a country.”

She adds “they can’t afford to leave anyone behind”.

Hajdu says they can’t meet market and labour needs as well as growth people if they don’t allow more people enter our country.

She says the government has launched new programs to help workers get the skills they need and identify what employers are looking for.

Hajdu says such initiative is the creation of a future skills centre.

She notes another move is the renewal of the youth employment strategy that she says puts greater focus on those who may have been overlooked in the past.
