Canada’s Minister of Ingenious and Northern Affairs is asking for help in getting the planned inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women moving.
The federal government has started meeting with families of victims.
Speaking this week to the Assembly of First Nations, Minister Carolyn Bennett says she’d welcome any pre-work done by the AFN or other organizations.
Bennett says she’s also planning some extensive travels by visiting First Nations communities across the country in the months to come.
She notes they also want to help improve the quality of life for First Nations communities.
Bennett says their plan includes helping aboriginals get greater access to funding programs such as the Child Benefit.
She adds revamping the child welfare system might also be necessary and improving housing will be another issue.
