FedNor investing in expanding Northern Ontario Mining Showcase opportunities

The 11th annual Northern Ontario Mining Showcase is making multiple stops this year.

A $1,324,500 investment from FedNor is being used to bring the showcase to the 2025 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention in Toronto, as well as the 2025 Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Annual Conference in Montreal.

Mining and related industries support Canada’s economy, employing more than 630,000 people and contributing approximately $100 billion annually to Canada’s GDP.

In Ontario alone, the mining supply and service sectors generate an estimated $10 billion annually, supporting 23,000 jobs.

“FedNor is a supporter of the showcase of Northern Ontario Mining because mining is such a huge and critical industry in Northern Ontario, but it also allows small and medium-sized businesses who are suppliers in the industry to connect with new customers,” explained the Minister responsible for FedNor, Patty Hadju. “I’ll be at PDAC for the three first days of the conference and I have been there before I can tell you that it’s a buzz of energy when you see Northern Ontario businesses, Northern Ontario experts, Indigenous leaders, and communities coming together to talk about how to sustainably mine the resources that we need for our green shift economy.”

FedNor is the economic development agency for Northern Ontario and one of its main roles is to support businesses in the region.

“The Northern Ontario Mining Showcase is an economic driver that has helped create over 900 jobs and delivered over $100 million in economic benefits in our region of Northern Ontario,” added Hadju. “Expanding the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase footprint to include MinExpo, PDAC, and CIM International will make a meaningful difference in the lives of people and families that depend on this important industry.”

An additional $344,000 from FedNor was used last year to expand the showcase to include a pavilion at the MinExpo International 2024 which took place in Las Vegas last September.

According to FedNor, Over 50,000 mining professionals from over 125 countries attend MinExpo every four years to meet with manufacturers, suppliers, and cutting-edge startups.

PDAC is the world’s premier mineral exploration & mining convention and the leading event for people, companies, and organizations connected to mineral exploration.

This annual convention attracts roughly 25,000 attendees from over 130+ countries for its educational programming, networking events, and business opportunities.
