Prime Minister Paul Martin has lost a cabinet minister
over the controversial same-sex marriage issue.
Joe Comuzzi, Minister of State for Northern Ontario’s Economic
Development, has told the Prime Minister he will resign.
The Thunder Bay-Superior North MP will side against the Federal Government’s same-sex marriage bill in a landmark vote late Tuesday.
The 71-year-old asked to meet with Martin and broke the news to
the Prime Minister in his Parliament Hill office just hours before
the vote.
Comuzzi abstained from a second-reading vote on same-sex marriage
late Monday night but will be allowed to oppose it now that he’s a
regular backbench MP.
Comuzzi will be replaced by Agriculture Minister Andy Mitchell.
