Matawa First Nations Management is getting more than $240,000 for a renewable energy plan.
Spokesperson Jason Rasevych explains the money from FedNor will help them explore sustainable ways to power their nine member communities.
Rasevych says they need clean fuel to power their homes and businesses, stressing the cost of diesel is set to increase to the point where it will become uneconomical.
Project Coordinator Jonathan Neegan explains that they are just in the beginning stages of creating the strategy.
Neegan says they are translating the pertinent energy information into Ojibwe, Cree and Oji-cree.
Development of the energy plan is expected to finish in the Spring of 2018.
