FedNor Under Fire

Kenora MP Bob Nault admits the government needs to take a serious look at the current FedNor program.

The regional economic development program came under fire Thursday during a meeting with local economic leaders.

Nault says the program should be reviewed and notes there are some flaws.

Nault adds he plans to meet with officials to discuss a clear vision for the agency.

He says right now FedNor is distributing money to projects not under its mandate and notes it’s a “patch-work” effort.

Nault added FedNor should become a stand-alone program and not linked to Industry Canada.

He says local leaders are telling him it takes up to six months to hear back on the status of the project.

Nault suggests they need a turn-around of six weeks.

Area officials described FedNor Thursday as the “Ignore Agency”, stressing its lost its way.

They also stressed the application process is brutal and you have to give up your first born child to receive funding.
