Feds Deciding Who Is Going to Pay

The federal government hasn’t decided who will pay for
15 new modular homes for the troubled First Nations community of
Attawapiskat.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan says $1.2-million worth
of modular homes have been ordered in what he calls an emergency
response to the community’s housing crisis.
Duncan says the important thing right now is to ensure the
desperate northern Ontario community gets the relief it needs _
including safe, warm, dry shelter.
The homes cannot be delivered until winter roads into the
isolated community are ready, possibly not until late January.
Ottawa has offered to evacuate residents of Attawapiskat, or
refit the local sportsplex or healing centre to accommodate them
until the homes can be delivered.
The isolated Cree community has become a focus of national
attention in recent weeks after it declared a state of emergency
over a housing crisis that had people living in tents and
uninsulated shacks.
