The federal government is funding two major studies in Sioux Lookout to prepare for potential growth in the Far North.
FedNor announced an investment of nearly $230,000 earlier Thursday.
Some of the money will be used to help Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake develop a transportation network, including the establishment of a transload facility.
The cash will also help in the creation of a wood-based, bio-energy strategy.
The ultimate goal is reducing energy costs for businesses and communities across the district and providing an alternative to diesel dependency for remote First Nations.
I was pleased to announce along with @DavidLametti, Parl Sec to the @NavdeepSBains, Minister of Innovation, Science & Economic Development, an investment of $229,600 to help grow the economy of @sioux_lookout.https://t.co/V2xpf0KAaV @ISED_CA @davidakin
