We still don’t know where the new federal government stands on the proposed Energy East pipeline.
The minister responsible for Climate Change, Catherine McKenna says we should have an idea in the coming weeks how that project will move forward.
She concedes there’s a lack of public trust in the way in which big energy projects have been approved.
The Council of Canadians charges the National Energy Board is stacked with Harper appointees and industry insiders and the proposed Energy East pipeline should go through a new review process with more consultation.
McKenna notes they will be speaking with Canadians, First Nations and those impacted by the pipeline.
One of Prime Minister Trudeau’s mandates is to modernize the National Energy Board and McKenna says they’re in a transition period.
