Feds Support Preservation Of Anishinaabe Languages

Kenora MP Greg Rickford announced today that $67,099 will support the Bimose Tribal Council for Anishinaabe language immersion camps.
Rickford says this is an opportunity for a couple of First Nations communities to connect with some very focused language training.
The Tribal Council will offer seven 9-day language camps to a total of 84 adults. They will learn the language through interactive activities based on traditional knowledge. In addition, each camp will be filmed and the sessions will be offered to schools in Ontario and on the Council’s website.
Rickford says it’s important to recognize the culture, adding many of the older generations still speak traditional languages.
