Feds to develop catalogue for quick housing builds

The federal government taking a page out of the 40s to help solve the housing crisis.

They’re going to launch a catalogue of quick-build housing designs, similar to post-World War II when thousands of soldiers returned home.

Housing Minister Sean Fraser says it won’t just focus on one type of housing.

“We’ll be looking for pre-approved designs for multiplexes, mid-rise buildings, seniors housing, students residences and other small to medium scale properties,” said Fraser.

He says the designs will meet standards for the CMHC program, and would be built quickly without compromising quality.

Consultations on the catalogue will begin next month.
