The Federal government is encouraging families to register for what it calls the new and improved Universal Child Care Benefit.
Minister of Employment and Social Development Pierre Polievre says families will now receive almost $2,000 per year for each child under 6 and $720 per year for each child aged 6 through 17.
The new benefit amounts will be retroactive to January 1st, 2015 and be reflected in monthly payments to families starting on July 20th.
Polievre says every single family, regardless of income or care of kids, is eligible for the funding.
He says 200,000 Canadian families haven’t registered and are missing out on money owed to them.
Polievre says 40 families in Dryden have yet to sign up.
