Festivals Not Hurting With A Lack Of Provincial Funding

It’s almost Festival season, but how are local groups doing with a lack of funding.

The province held back this year with funding for Northern Festivals.

Only one regional event received financial backing.

However, it has had little impact on local groups.

Alyson Brunton is the Coordinator of the Blueberry Festival in Sioux Lookout.

Brunton says they don’t access provincial funds, noting they have a great working relationship with the Federal Government.

Red Lake Norseman Festival Chair Duane Riddell says they don’t apply for the funding, noting there’s too much involved in the application process.

Both stress the importance of local businesses and organizations for their success.
