FF looks at doctor shortage 1 (overlength)

Almost everyone agrees, something needs to be done to get and keep doctors in the Rainy River District, but the idea of a new business model received hot and cold reception last night.

Hundreds of residents turned out at the meeting to hear about a plan put in place in Sault Ste. Marie, and also from local health care providers like Doctor Jason Shack, the area’s newest doctor who has been here for two years.

Doctor Shack stressed no new physician wants to come to a community and then have to build their practice.

He stressed the community has to step forward and own the clinic, so the doctors can focus on health care issues, and not have to be businessmen.
