Ontario’s Advocate for Children and Youth is disappointed with a recent move by the Federal Government.
Provincial Advocate Irwin Elman says they have been denied the chance to intervene in the court of appeal case regarding child welfare and funding services for First Nations children.
Elman says they continue to push through with this tribunal.
He adds the government is trying to stop the hearings from moving forward and that it’s unfair to compare services received by First Nations children with other children in the country.
Elman says that the government has said that the voices of First Nations children would be carried by the Assembly of First Nations and First Nations Child and Family Caring Society.
In April, the Federal court will send the case to the Human Rights Tribunal and this hearing begins in February.
