Final Week Of Testimony In MMIWG Hearings

The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls is hearing some final testimony.

60 parties, including Grand Council Treaty 3 and Nishnawbe Aski Nation, are making presentations in Ottawa this week.

Chief Commissioner Marion Buller says the stories they hear will provide a framework for their final report.

Buller stresses all recommendations and input received will bring about the necessary change to create healing, justice and reconciliation so all women and girls can feel safe.

Commissioner Brian Eloyfson from Couchiching First Nation looks forward to the perspectives and recommendations received in the final week of hearings.

Eloyfson says the final report is due by April 30th, 2019.

Commissioner Qajaq Robinson says regional input is vital.

Robinson says they want to know what each recommendation means to each jurisdiction, each community and each family.
